Emergency Medical Services
EMTs and Paramedic Employers: Ambulance Services, Hospitals, Fire Departments,EMTs and Paramedics care for the sick or injured in emergency medical settings. People’s lives often depend on their quick reaction and competent care. EMTs and Paramedics respond to emergency calls and are responsible for patient evaluation and crisis intervention, team leadership, coordinating resources, effective communication and decision-making, documentation and transportation while maintaining a cooperative working relationship with other agencies and responders in a culturally diverse working environment. Fast-paced, loud, bloody and dangerous are just a few of the words that describe a typical emergency scene. EMTs and Paramedics face immense pressure to arrive at the scene as quickly as possible so they can provide care to those who need it most. Clearly, this is not the field for everyone. But for those who can deal with these job elements, work as an EMT or Paramedic is quite satisfying.

Foods and Nutrition
Dietitian, Nutritionist, Sports Nutritionist, Health CoachThe Nutrition and Food Sciences degree includes general nutrition and diet therapy for nursing. The transfer major partially reflects requirements for CSU, Chico. Students planning to transfer should contact a counselor for more information on program and transfer requirements The Foods and Nutrition programs provide the necessary education for students planning to transfer to four-year institutions. Nutrition course work instructs students in the scientific principles of nutrition as it applies to achieving optimal health, treating chronic diseases and managing food systems. Students who pursue a degree in nutrition have diverse career opportunities in areas such as healthcare, public health, foodservice, food science, wellness, education, and research. Individuals who study nutrition often become Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDN) in addition to obtaining a bachelor’s degree. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that RDNs will be in demand due to the role of food in preventing and treating chronic diseases. It is also predicted that the employment for food scientists will grow because of continued research in agriculture production techniques. Students planning to transfer should contact a counselor for more information on program and transfer requirements.

Health Information Management
Medical Coder, Health Information Manager, Healthcare Data AnalystThe Health Information Management Medical Coding prepares students for a career as a medical coder. The medical coder is responsible for reviewing patient health records, assigning appropriate codes to diagnoses and procedures performed by the healthcare provider, and submitting claims for reimbursement and collecting payments. The Bureau of Labor Statistics is predicting that the medical coder is growing due to an aging population requiring more medical services.
Program Highlights: Understanding of healthcare industry as it relates to health information management. General knowledge of HIPAA guidelines. Ability to interpret coding guidelines.
Nursing
Licensed Vocational Nurse, Registered Nurse, Certified Nursing AssistantThe Nursing Program has three distinct tracts:
Registered Nursing
The two-year traditional Registered Nursing Associate Degree program prepares the student for licensure as an RN at the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) level. The four-semester program provides theory and clinical content required for registered nursing licensure. Upon completion of the degree, the student will be eligible for registered nursing.
Program Highlights: Clinical experience in multiple healthcare settings. Theory integration into clinical experiences 100% career placement after graduation and successful licensure examination.
Certified Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aid
The Certified Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide program is designed to prepare students for state certification as a Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide. Students undergo a minimum of 190 hours of instruction: 82 hours of theory, and 108 hours of supervised clinical instruction in a nursing facility and home health agency. The program is scheduled in a 12 week, four days per week format, with students attending classes eight hours per day. Successful completion of the program makes students eligible to take the written and manual skills test for state certification.

Licensed Vocation Nursing
The Licensed Vocational Nursing program is a state approved vocational program which provides the curriculum necessary for an individual to qualify for the state board examination for licensure as a vocational nurse. The primary role of the licensed vocational nurse is to provide bedside nursing in a variety of clinical settings. The student will study common medical-surgical conditions, their origin, prevention and treatment emphasizing the related nursing care.
Program Highlights: Extensive and varied clinical experiences. 100% career placement upon completion of the coursework and successful licensure. Quick 18-month course.
Respiratory Therapy
Respiratory Therapists, Pulmonary Function Technologist, Sleep Study TechnicianThe Respiratory Care program is designed to prepare students to become licensed Respiratory Care Practitioners in the state of California. Respiratory care practitioners are highly skilled allied health professionals involved in the therapy, management, rehabilitation, diagnostic evaluation and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities that affect the cardiopulmonary system. They are employed in a variety of health care settings, including hospitals, physician's offices, home health agencies, specialized care hospitals, medical equipment supply companies, diagnostic laboratories, and patients' homes.
Program Highlights: Strong faculty support for success. Focus on “real-world” experience. Over 90% of graduates employed within one year.
